Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
