Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
