Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at the judicial center on Friday

A man who laced sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two children aged between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.

She stated Ruben continued to play the "candy game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.

She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
