Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
