Around 25,000 households in south-east Queensland were left without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events swept through the state, producing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Residents witnessed giant hailstones measuring up to seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been impacted by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 calls for help across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28k energy customers in the state were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the wettest day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
