Much like Storm Claudia tore through the north-west the night before, Manchester City overwhelmed the visitors away at the Etihad. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that firmly established their leadership claims as they reinforced their place at the top of the table.

Consecutive Losses for United

This scoreline represented consecutive Women's Super League losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, leaving them seven points off the top team with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Manchester United's ability to manage league and continental soccer with a thin squad has been a hotly discussed subject since they qualified for the UCL. Considering the fixture list, it always seemed this was the week that would truly test this fortitude. Unfortunately for the visitors, they looked weary throughout, the memorable win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes

Skinner had tried to freshen things up with a a few changes. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Leah Galton all brought vigor, although the exclusion of the high-performing Melvine Malard to the sidelines caused surprise.
