The President Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
