The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The song blends a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from mid-December.
