Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
